Some Japanese people respect monkeys. The monkey
became a belief in Shinto to the point of faith as a
god. There is a record that appears in the history
that originated in Japan as a god that connects
heaven and the human world. So the monkeys
were later believed to have the power toward off
evil as a sacred animal. The "Three Monkeys" at
Nikko Tosho Shrine in Nikko City, Tochigi
Prefecture are deeply religious and widely known
by both Japanese and foreigners. These three
monkeys are monkey puzzles.
One closed his mouth,
the second closed his ears,
and the third closed his eyes.
This is a saying of a happy way of life that
"do not see, hear, or say" about the faults and mistakes of others. Be Happy!
